Shisouan (梓想庵) is a service that let you borrow traditional samurai clothes from the Kamakura period and induce yourself into the atmosphere of the Kamakura area. Of course, katana are also included and you can even try Japanese archery (kyudo). You can also check out their blog if you want to see more photos.
That’s how I looked after being transformed into a samurai.
And how I was being a normal human being before changing. By the way, I have to praise the service for being very attentive to details and patient when giving out instructions.
They are located in Kamakura, the heart of the Samurai history, which only adds to the charm!
Here is the map of their location.
Shisouann <梓想庵＞ offers you a real experience of Samurai during Kamakura period (1185-1333) by carefully remaking clothes, equipment and shoes with attention to detail. Once you let your body into the Samurai clothes, you will see and feel things through Samurai’s eyes and enjoy such a time-travel experience.
Taken from the shisouan’s official English Facebook page, this is how they describe themselves. And indeed, in my case, it is was a very unique experience that pleasantly surprised me.
You can choose between many types of weapons to carry around.
Japanese archery instructions.
After you are done with archery and getting photographed, you can wander around the area wearing your samurai outfit and your katana.
I went to Shisouan not really knowing how it would actually turn out, and left with a fascinating experience that will definitely remain in my memories. It was a lot more fun than I expected and I definitely recommend it to anyone!
