Engaku-ji is one of the most important Zen Buddhist temple in Japan. It was founded in 1282 by Tokimune Hojo and is situated in Kita-Kamakura just near the railway station. This temple also ranks second amongst the five great Rinzai temples of Kamakura (鎌倉五山).
Meigetsu-in is a garden and temple situated in Kita-Kamakura, Kanagawa. It was founded in 1394 by Norikata Uesugi of the Uesugi clan.
It earned the nickname Ajisai-dera, which means Hydrangea Temple thanks to its beautiful ajisai (hydrangea). These flowers are in full bloom during the month of June, a time when the temple gets extremely crowded.
